- Dan Parker Races at the Bonneville Salt Flats

The National Federation of the Blind supported Dan Parker in realizing his dream of becoming the first blind man to race the Bonneville Salt Flats. This video chronicles Dan's ride, from the perspectives of both the chase truck and a distant observer. Sporting his black leathers, Dan races the Salt Flats on his red motorcycle (outfitted with a GPS system) that lists all of his supporters' names.

The National Federation of the Blinds Blind Driver Challenge was honored at National Instruments' annual conference, NIWeek, in August. Mark Riccobono, executive director of the NFB Jernigan Institute, and Dennis Hong, director of the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory (RoMeLa) at Virginia Techs College of Engineering, both spoke at the conference.

The NFB and Virginia Tech announced on July 2 that they have partnered to demonstrate the first street vehicle equipped with technology allowing a blind person to drive independently. The vehicle is scheduled to be demonstrated to the public as part of the pre-race activities at the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
